AXIAN Telecom and Huawei have formalised a strategic partnership in Shanghai aimed at accelerating Africa’s digital transformation through next-generation connectivity, AI-driven operations and expanded digital services.

AXIAN Telecom and Huawei set the stage for a deeper technology partnership aimed squarely at accelerating Africa’s digital transformation and building more inclusive digital economies across the continent.

The two tech giants penned a strategic cooperation Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) in Shanghai that strengthens collaboration across three pillars, digital connectivity, digital finance and digital operations. These are areas that both companies say are critical to modernising Africa’s telecom infrastructure and unlocking new economic opportunities. At its core, the partnership is designed to expand affordable, resilient and high-performance digital services in AXIAN Telecom’s operating markets.

Industry analysts view the pact as a signal of how telecom operators and global technology partners are aligning to close Africa’s connectivity gaps while preparing networks for the next wave of digital demand.

The MoU outlines joint work on deploying future-ready technologies, including 5G, cloud-native networks, AI-driven operations and advanced digital platforms. These capabilities are expected to improve network efficiency, support digital financial services and enable smarter service delivery to businesses, governments and consumers.

Hassan Jaber, CEO of AXIAN Telecom, stressed that the partnership represents more than infrastructure investment, it is about shaping Africa’s long-term digital competitiveness.

“This partnership reflects AXIAN Telecom’s core values, long-term commitment, local empowerment, and responsible growth,” Jaber said. “By working closely with Huawei, we are reinforcing our ability to deliver high-quality digital services while building the digital capabilities Africa needs to compete and thrive in the global economy.”

Huawei echoed the strategic importance of the collaboration in enabling sustainable digital ecosystems.

“We are proud to deepen our strategic relationship with AXIAN Telecom,” said Gary Lu, President of Huawei Southern Africa Region Carrier Business. “Together, we will bring advanced technologies and innovation to local markets, supporting sustainable development, improved connectivity and better digital experiences for people and businesses across Africa.”

As African economies increasingly rely on digital infrastructure to drive growth, the AXIAN–Huawei partnership positions both firms at the centre of a transformation agenda focused on inclusion, innovation and long-term resilience.
