Nigeria has taken a pivotal move in modernising its tax compliance framework, and Interswitch is at the heart of it.
The Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS) has officially accredited Interswitch, Africa’s respected integrated payments and digital commerce company, as an Access Point Provider and System Integrator for the West African country’s mandatory e-invoicing system under the Monitoring, Billing, and Settlement (MBS) platform.
Launched to curb tax evasion, boost transparency, and improve revenue collection, the MBS platform serves as a central hub for real-time invoice validation. It replaces paper and traditional e-documents like invoices and credit notes by capturing key transaction details such as buyer and supplier data, quantities, prices, and taxes.
Muyiwa Asagba, Managing Director for Commercial Inclusion (Interswitch Inclusio) said this development cements the integrated payments and digital commerce company’s growing influence in shaping national e-invoicing frameworks across Africa.
He emphasised that it follows the company’s 2024 partnership with the Kenya Revenue Authority on a similar rollout under the eTIMS initiative, positioning Interswitch as a pivotal player in driving compliance-led digital transformation in two of Sub-Saharan Africa’s biggest economies.
“We are pleased to be recognised by FIRS as a trusted Access Point Provider. This accreditation reaffirms Interswitch’s commitment to delivering innovative, business-centric solutions that not only meet compliance requirements but also create operational value for our customers,” he said.
The FIRS platform went live on August 1, 2025, beginning with large taxpayers generating over $3.26 million (₦5 billion) annually. After extensive industry feedback, the onboarding deadline was extended to November 1, 2025, giving businesses additional time for integration and testing.
Through its accreditation, Interswitch will provide businesses with a fully compliant e-invoicing solution, securely connected to the FIRS system. The solution is designed to streamline workflows, reduce manual errors, and enable real-time reporting for faster, more accurate tax submissions, supporting both corporates and SMEs.
“The e-invoicing directive is not just about compliance, it is an opportunity for Nigerian businesses to modernize their operations, enhance transparency, and embrace efficiency. We are here to make that transition seamless,” added Asagba
With enterprise-grade security at its core, he further stated that Interswitch’s platform ensures sensitive financial data is safeguarded while empowering businesses to thrive in an increasingly digital economy.
